Nemesia
in Talkback
I was given a packet of Nemesia seeds yesterday. Has anyone grown these plants? I had never heard of them. Are they slug fodder as we have more than our share of slugs in this garden even though we have frogs and hedgehogs living here too.

I've always grown mine in containers and found them easy to please. There are plenty of hiding places for molluscs in this garden too. One called 'Blue Gem' grew happily in complete shade. I'm not fond of the usual multi-coloured mixes, but Nemesia 'Poetry' is really pretty.
I have had plants, last year I saved the seeds and will sow in about a week. Never grown then from seeds before but don't see why they would be any different from any other plants.
I grew a free pack from a magazine last year called Carnival. They were kind of gaudy but were fab in containers, lots of flowers.
This year I'm growing national ensign and galaxy and the rest of the carnival pack. I didn't notice anything eating them last year. The caterpillars that ate my nasturtiums in the same containers didn't bother with them
Not grown them from seed but I've had them as small plants in baskets and containers.
Thank you for all your comments. You have given me hope that the seeds will mature into lovely plants. It is Carnival Mix that I was given and yes the colours are quite gaudy looking on the front of the packet - but after the dreariness of the winter I am quite looking forward to seeing these colours outside my front door when they have been potted up in the containers. Red is my predominant colour outside.
My recycled RED bench. The field behind the low wall is rented out to a farmer who had just ploughed when this picture was taken.
Oooh, love that bench GD
These are some of the carnival mix, forgot how bright they were - roll on summer
Thanks for sharing your pictures Victoria Sponge - they certainly are eye-catching - just what we need to brighten up the area around our cottage. I like the way your have attached them to your fence - that really is making the most of available space.
