Problem with Doves

Hi can anyone give me advice about what I can do to help my mother solve a problem.....at this time of year doves are picking berries off a bush at the front of her house and they crush them off the windowpane; they make a complete mess of the window sills. She has tried a few approaches but nothing has helped. Any ideas?

Put a different plant there, one without berries, difficult to stop birds doing what they do.

I'm with the birds on this one, they have to eat and the berries wont be there long so I'd just wipe the windows until the berries are all eaten.

Saw my first collared dove here yesterday. Birdbook says 'widespread everywhere except in less frequented hilly districts'. Which is where I live. Very pretty bird, sitting all fluffed up in a birch treeimage

I'd like to apologise for my relations' bad manners, but they are very grateful to your mother for providing such nourishing food image

Ive had Collared Doves here for 3 years, visit every afternoon for their seed. Never caused a problem for me image

I would recommend just wiping the sills off every so often

  • Problem solved...her cat got them! Only joking....thanks for all the replies - she'll just have to put up with them until the berries disappear. image

  • You can send you collared doves to us Michael 98 - I love them - we have wood pigeons - about a dozen of them and they eat most of the seeds that we put out for the birds - eat the crops we plant in the vegetable garden and leave their mess behind them. We did have a couple of pairs of collared doves but they always built their nests in our tall pine trees and the first wind would blow down nests and quite often dove chicks to their deaths.
