Window sills

Evening all,  I am going to plant seeds tomorrow and put them on a window sill. What do ye put under the seed tray as not to get timber marked?  image

Use trays without holes in the base.

Depends on your window sills! You can get long narrow window sill trays from the GC, used for houseplants. If you sow in pots you could just collect a few suitable trays from your supermarket shop, the firmer plastic ones, flat, obviously no holesimage or buy seed tray sized gravel trays. Add some grit and you can keep your plants watered and cool on warmer, sunny days.Pricking out into half-sized seed trays aids versatility.

My house has thick, stone walls which means deep window sills, so I use greenhouse gravel trays which will take three or four full-sized seed trays, you can get longer  or shorter ones.

I used food packaging as seed trays and kept the slightly bigger ones to go under them. They're ideal for modern house cills.

Look messy though - which greatly annoys me...image

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
