Devils Ivy and Peace Lily

I have never owned plants before but bought two plants from B&Q: Devil's Ivy and Peace Lily.

After only two days in my house, the peace lily has browning leaf tips that were not there when I bought it.  It's in a south facing room, but several feet in and several feet to the side of a window.

I also bought a Devil's Ivy which I didn't spot in the shop, but has leaves with brown patches and holes.  They don't appear to have worsened in my brief ownership.  It's located a few feet further into the room away from the other plant.

I watered both plants last night as the soil was dry even 1 to 2 inches in.  I watered until the soil was moist and it had just started to drain through the holes in the pot, I then cleared the saucer of water.  I can't see anything crawling on the leaves or flying around, no signs of mould or larvae in the soil.

Is there anything to worry about?

  • Thank you Tetley.

I did read about misting, but some conflicting things about how often you should do it. I do own one of those bottles actually, as although I said these were my first plants, I do grow herbs on my windowsill and regularly mist those as it seems to help them.  I will do the same with the two larger plants!
