Birds and palm tree

Hi does anyone know how I can stop the birds, mainly blackbirds pulling at the base of my palm trees taking bits of the base of the Palm for nesting please?

Hi it is a Trachycarpus Fortinei in the ground and we have a smaller palm in a pot and they do it in that too. We feed the birds so want them to come in our garden but not to harm the palms. Thanks for any advice. Sandra

Are they actually causing any "harm" ?

IMHO most palms have dead foliage further down, which will, in time, fall off.

I can't imagine they're doing anything other than speeding up this process and making lovely nests at the same time.

I'd leave them all to it it they were in my garden.

Sandra, I don't know if you use FB, but there's a dedicated "Hardy Tropical Gardening" section on there.

Lots of talk about palms and the likes .
