  • The 3 original pictures on this thread do definitely NOT show clematis seeds, best is to ask for a refund from your supplier or name and shame.

I have lots of spare clematis seeds surplus if anyone wants to try some, no charge, but I do not have any of the Large Flowered Hybrids, I don't grow them.

    Richard, good evening.

I've never tried clematis from seed. Are they easy, and do they come true?

I like the viticella, texensis and alpina types.

    Devon.
  • aym, the seeds that I sent to you, have you sowed them ?

Surely, you didn't put them on wet tissue ?

Did I not send instructions about sowing ?

  • Hostafan, some of the clematis seeds are easy, tanguticas, orientalis, koreanas, but some are more difficult.

I have plenty of My Angel seeds (easy and quick ) and lots of crispa, ( more patience required ) these are delightful, hardy, bell shaped clematis, Summer flowering, look super growing over a green shrub or in a large pot with metal obelisk, good range of colours, pinks, purples, whites.

The My Angel seedlings would be very similar to the seed mother plant but  would not be the same and can not be called My Angel.

    Richard.

I would be interested in any small flowered clematis seed, Richard. I would be happy to send postage and any other costs. I've always sowed clematis fresh and overwintered outside, would they need the fridge if sowed now?

  • Tell him also that his clematis ' alpine ' is actually Princess Diana

  • I never chill clematis seeds, nutcutlet, I usually sow them in John Innes Seed & Cutting in 4 inch deep pots, covered with a thick layer of horticultural grit.

Also, occasionally, I use the ' baggy ' method, sowing the seeds in moist vermiculite in a zippy freezer bag.

I do have some under heating.

    ( Why cannot I upload some pictures ? )

Maybe I'll stop chilling Richard, it seemed to work but if it's not necessary I won't bother. Thanks.
