Growing Crocosmia Lucifer from corms

Hi all, I've bought a pack of the crocosmia Lucifer corms. I was wondering if they are easy to grow as I may buy more packs? Has anybody successfully established them buy growing from corm?

Unless they're old and dried out they'll grow TGG. image

  • Yes. I didn't see anything the first year, got foliage the second year and flowers the third year. So, probably did something wrong. image

Crocosmia are pretty easy from corms, just like any other bulb really, but be careful they can take over. They will spread and need lifting every 3 years and breaking up the clumps and refreshing the soil. They form a dense mat with bulbs growing on top of the previous years bulb the old bulbs deplete the nutrients in the soil and need breaking off to keep the display going. They can be very nice if looked after.

  • Thank you for the advice folks.

On second thoughts in that case Dave I don't think I'll buy anymore. I've got the orange awful invasive crocosmia in my front garden,no idea how a corm appeared there and this year I'm to clear all the little shoots it's throwing up.

I was under the impression that Lucifer is a safer cultivar but better to be safe than sorry.I'll keep it in a pot.

    Such a shame,it's a beautiful plant.

I have lucifer in our east facing bed. It gets sun in the morning until about 12/1pm in the height of summer.  So far I have found ours to be pretty well behaved. ????

Mine have been in for 3 years and haven't increased - wish they would.  So don't see a problem with them being invasive.
