It's too early for tulips to flower. Or do you mean they didn't flower last year?

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
  • We have just one tulip in flower so far this Spring and a few plants with buds but all from  second year bulbs - the new bulbs that I bought and planted last October are only just showing through the earth so perhaps your tulips will show in a few weeks time elizabeth33.

It's only the species tulips which would normally be in flower at this time of year and even with the milder winter many people have experienced, it's very early for tulips to be in flower. I have some growth on a few of mine and some are only just coming through the soil. Tulips need sharper drainage than daffs and narcissus, which can cope with sitting in wet ground.

Have they got very dried out between receiving them and planting them?

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Thank you for your comments,Tulips that i bought and planted last Oct from a Garden centre are up and in flower but the ones I received from magazine are not showing yet,  some of the daffs i planted in Oct from the mag are in flower but not as many as I planted. I will wait until later to see how they do.Yes they were planted within hours of receiving them through the post.

Different varieties of daffs flower at different times in the spring so you may well see more flowers later, and has been said only the species tulips will be flowering at the moment - none of my larger tulips show any signs of flowering yet and I don't expect them to flower for at least a month, maybe more.  image

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

  • I have a lot of daffs leaves but no sign of flowers, they look "blind".

Time will tell with the other bulbs, can but hope.

  • I have quite a few "blind" daffodils - and as Dovefromabove mentioned - some species flower later than others - so hang on in there elizabeth33 - you may get a later display from the bulbs yet..

a touch of spring after a wet miserable winter here in Cumbria.

  • A pretty display philip4,  very neat and colourful with snowdrops, crocus and mini daffs. and roses to bloom in the summer.

  • Lucky you,I only have leaves and soil to show so will not bother to take a photo. Will hang in there, cann't do much else.

Still I have loads of summer seedlings coming up on my kitchen window sill (seeds bought from garden centre) so at least i will have colour in the summer.
