Lupins

Growing lupins from seed collected after flowering last year. Any helpful suggestions please - how long do they take to germinate - do I sow in the usual way?

Just sown mine today, normal way, no probs, they don't take any longer than any others and will make big plants by the end of the year, ready to be planted out next Spring, keep under cover or sheltered for the winter.

Very easy from seed Guernsey. I plant in autumn from a spring sowing. Not doing any this year though.

I  couldn't put mine out until Spring, but some people do live in warmer areas, mine don't even look to good over wintering in the greenhouse.

  • After reading your comments I think I may try sowing them in the autumn in the cold GH -  ready to plant out next Spring. Plants like these don't overwinter very well outside here - too many slugs and wind!
