Brandling Worms
My homemade garden compost is full of brandling worms. I know that these live in decaying matter and not in garden soil. It would be extremely difficult to remove the worms before using the compost because they are so many. But what will happen to the worms if added to the soil?

They grow up basically. When I empty a bin I save some stuff to go in one and keep a fork full of worms and pop them in the bottom then add the saved stuff. I add a bag of fresh horse manure at the same time and it goes away from there. All Brandlings are are young worms with huge appetites.
They'll be fine - they'll make their way to somewhere with the right conditions for them - along the way some will become lunch for the millions of baby birds that will be hatching very soon.

Brandlings are not young garden worms; they are a different species.
I think Welshonion is right.

I think it's nice to consider the worms but it's all part of the big food chain. Everything is a meal for something.

Mine do seem to make their way back to the compost heaps - or at least some of them do - I see them in the grass - but then the compost heaps aren't far from the veg patch so they don't have far to travel - no idea whether they know where they're going - I find some of them on the terrace at the other end of the veg patch, if the robins don't find them first.
