Flowers in the rain, thanks for sharing that, when you sow how moist do you have the compost? I'd worry seeds sown in early winter would rot before they were ready to germinate. What seeds do well like this that I could sow now?
I suggest you read up on it , you will even find a 'what can be wintersown now' list. I can't do links, also very slow at typing.....so would be here all night
I start my sowings at end of Jan, but some start straight after Christmas! Start with hardys, then in March half hardys . End of March I start off annuals/ summer bedding.
The beauty of doing it this way is that everything grows in its own little greenhouse, and as you DO NOT use the container top it gets watered (rain/snow) and ventilated without you having to worry The plants grow sturdy and strong and don't really need much hardening off (as they were grown outside), I just open up the lids during milder spells and once the last frost date has passed they are ready to go!
But I strongly advise you to read up on it all, that's what I did a few years ago , it's a brilliant way of starting things off , I don't think I've had anything not grow....yet! But I have never started Zinnias off this way, will try this year......fingers crossed
