Rats!

i have a visiting rat! It's sad mostly because the rat ( I presume where there is one there is more) is eating the apples I put out for the blackbirds. My garden is wild with birds at the moment. most of my bird feeders are solid so not much mess which is what attracted rats once before. i'm torn as what makes rats so distasteful as surely all is nature after all...

  • Oh I have poisoned rats before. Wasn't happy when they made a home right under our front door!  I live out in the country, Somerset. The rat I saw today looked very healthy. No doubt doing well on my apples. It is at the end of the garden...it is annoying. I'm not sure if I like rats or not. It's probably conditioning mostly that makes us feel disturbed by rats. I knew folk who had them as pets. i just really enjoy seeing the blackbirds enjoying their apples.

You rarely see a dead rat, they go underground to die.

We have loads of rats in this area and often see them clambering through the hawthorn and blackthorn bushes by the riverside. Also we're on the South Downs so it's pretty countrified round here.

When my old cats died of old age I got two ferals and we haven't had any rat invasion since. I'd rather use cats or terriers than poisons which might harm wildlife.
