I use them for sweet peas and some edible peas. When you plant them make sure the cardboard is completely covered. If not , it acts like a wick and takes moisture from the ground.

  • Probably the reason for using them for sweet peas is because they are very deep rooted and they don't like the root disturbance involved with potting-on. So, by the same token I would say use them for any seed that fall into that category ie beans, peas etc.

I've never used them myself, but those who have seem to be concerned about white fungus that grows on the damp cardboard.....I can say, this does no harm to the seedlings.

I usually use them for runner and French beans; parsnips maybe too?

I use them for kale, runner beans, pot marigolds, cosmos and the kitchen roll tubes for parsnips. I put 2or3 seeds in and see what comes up except for the dinner beans I put them in after they come up. With the kitchen rolls when planting them out be careful not to water them too much or they will fall apartimage
