What seeds are you looking at starting now?
cosmos, really, and others i dont know where to begin, ive kelled ten dahlias last night ,leaving them in the potting shed,
Cosmos, They are usually sown in March-April so it may be worth waiting until then, but they most probably will be fine to be sown indoors maybe on a windowsill.
Oh no! I'm sorry about the Dahlias, that's unfortunate, maybe they can be rescued, were the root tubers exposed to hard frost? or were they only seedlings?
they were little plants jerrybone,i had just potted them on,i thought, they would be ok.i had bought them from the garden centre.
Hi, I would like to have a go at growing from seed (I have a variety of packets) my question is, do i need special soil or do I use multi purpose compost with something added? Thanks
I think it ought to be made more clear that those pretty little plants at garden centres just now in plugs or tiny pots are generally very tender and need a heated greenhouse.
You can sew many seeds now, but they, too, need a heated greenhouse to survive the next few weeks. It's bad luck about the dahlias. We all live and learn this way!
The clue is in the fact that bedding plants etc are 'under cover' at Garden Centres....
If you sow anything now, don't sow too much unless you have a decent greenhouse to move them into when you pot them all on. That little tray of tiny seedlings that look so innocent on a window sill become a large area when you get them all in 3 or 4 inch pots. Hardy annuals still need hardening off if you start them off at this time of year under cover. You can't just fling them out in the elements in April when they've been cossetted. Bit like us really!
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
thanks posy, and fairygirl, your both right, its my fault, lol i will get some more, and keep them on my conservatory, window sil above the radiator,i than.thanks,i get so carried
away, and want to grow loads,i should have got a greenhouse, instead,of a potting shed,
