container garden

I have a large garden full of pots. I am wanting to put climbers along a new fence, but also worried that they may not carry on spreading as they will be in a container. Any suggestion.

Hi Lynn - firstly, what kind of climbers do you want to grow? Anything in a container needs more nurturing than in the ground, so you need as big a pot as possible. Secondly, what aspect and height is the fence? Also, what do you have round about that may influence what you plant?   image

  • Thanks all, I have one already in a container, I thought I had died last year until it flowered again, but it looks very woody now, shall i just leave it or do I have to cut I back to the base of the soil.

Honeysuckles rarely thrive in containers unless the containers are very big. They need a good run of damp soil and some shade at their feet. Too dry and sunny, and they'll be prone to mildew etc. image
