Stumpy Hyacinths

Hi all

I tried searching for solutions or causes of this problem but i can't find anything.  Both my indoor and outdoor hyacinths have become "stumpy".  By this i mean all flower (quite small head of flowers) and no stalk.  The ones outside are one year old and the ones inside were bought to cheer me up after an op three months ago.  But all are stumpy.  I have no idea what i've done wrong.  Last years bulbs were amazing.  Long thick stalks, amazing colour and scent.
