Copper Birch or Green Beech Hedging???

Hello All, I am a very amateur gardener and I am looking to plant a hedge along the boundary of my front garden.  My husband and I spotted a fab hedge when walking through the grounds of a stately home and the gardener told us that it was called 'Copper Birch'. On arriving home I keenly googled 'hedging' 'Copper Birch', but the threads that were listed were for 'Green Beech'.  Are they one and the same perchance? I  am going round in circles on the internet trying to find the answer and am rapidly losing the will to live lol, so I thought I'd throw the question out there to the experts.  Hornbeam looks very nice too and similar to beech.

Beech is what you want for hedging, copper or green. Lovely choice.image

Birch is not a hedging plant, lovely tree though

If your site is prone to being very wet, Hornbeam will do better than Beech. Otherwise - nut's advice is spot on  image

  • And beech hedging only needs to be trimmed once a year, usually in late July. Good luck with your new hedge!
