Problem Plant
I have a red Hawthorn tree in my garden and it is absolutely smothered in ivy. I have tried cutting it off at the base but it just grows back even more. Does anyone know how I can reclaim my lovely red Hawthorn?

Cut through the ivy stems cutting a piece a couple of inches long out of the ivy stem so that it can't grow back together, then paint the lower cut surface with some SBK brushwood killer - do this in March/April and again through the summer if it grows new shoots. That should kill the ivy - eventually

Thank you very much. I have tried the cutting but not the killer. What is the best way to get the Ivy out of the tree? Will it dry out and fall off. I can't get up into the tree as I am disabled and I don't want to damage it by pulling the Ivy off.
