Finally, I have made a decision ...

Has anybody else seemed to have suffered from indecisiveness so far this year as to what to grow? I seem to be doing a lot of procrastinating, telling myself that I will 'figure it out tomorrow' then getting distracted by something else.

Well today I have finally decided on what Tomatoes to grow this year, it's only taken me a month ... 'Sungold' 'Gardeners Delight' and 'Tigerella' purely for the decorative factor. I also ordered some Strawberry 'Mara Des Bois' plants on-line from Pomona Fruits last week.
I did sow some Chillis a couple of weeks ago which are coming up well in the propagator however everything else is still undecided ...

I bet 90% of gardeners can never make up their minds what to grow because there is always at least one more plant that looks really interesting even though there isn't an inch of space left in which to plant it. I order seeds then realise that I have omitted something, so there is another order, and another, and half of the stuff doesn't suit my garden. Its a disease, an addiction.

Same here NGL, I think you have made a good choice on the tomatoes though.

my trouble is that I collect seeds from my garden and everyone else's as well and when I look at them I want to sow them all.

  • I have a tin full of seeds that I want to grow but I'm trying to be strict with myself this year as I seem to think my garden is much bigger than it really is each year! lol

On the plus side, if you grow too many things you will never have any bare patches. Its always nice to have a store of spare plants outside the greenhouse, just in case some plants fail to thrive.

  • I thought it was just me because I'm so new to it! image

I just bought loads of little plants that looked nice and my garden still looks empty!

  • I just seem to be extremely lazy so far this year lol, lots of ideas are swimming around my head but putting things into motion seems to be a sticking point right now.

I grow seeds in rice/yoghurts pots, that way you just have a few of each and can grow several different lots of plants.

we've all made the mistake of growing a whole seed tray full of one variety then feeling sorry for them and can't throw them away.

Well, it's only February - plenty of time for some winter weather yet, so no need to really pin yourself down to what and where - except that many of the best seeds or plants are beginning to go.   I love this time, when I can plan away, forgetting what is already in the ground, or in the pots, so end up double planting (often), sowing enough for a ¾ of an acre for my not very big garden, jamming things into pots and generally having a lovely time.  Then there are garden shows - and surely there is room for one more hosta, one more fuchsia - so that's another couple of pots, and the grass is disappearing - and there are lily bulbs arriving that I had forgotten I had ordered ……….  indeed, an obsession, but there are worse ones to have I guess.

  • That is very true! The ideas are in my head, I'l get going at some point lol

I'm going to the Harrogate Spring Show this year ... no doubt i'l be unable to resist!

Don't even try - you'll spoil the experience!   We went a few years ago, it was one of the best shows ever - do enjoy to the fullest.  Maybe take cash and nit a credit card? That can help re too much spending - but maybe we don't want to be helped really!!
