White onion rot

Last year my onions were wiped out by onion rot, which I'd never experienced before.  How do I treat that plot this year - should I dig it over, can it be planted?  Any advice would be very much appreciated....

  • There is no treatment other than time - don't grow onions in the same place again for at least 5 years.  The good news is that only alliums are affected, so you can grow anything else you like there apart from plants in the onion family.  In fact I would say the more you cultivate it and the wider range of crops you grow in it, the better.  image

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
  • Happy to try anything - thank you.
