Lyn - I must think on a different wavelength!  image

You're right of course - and you'd then have wee Johnny's mother knocking on the door complaining and threatening to sue....image

I have a Libertia (as Verdun mentioned) and a dark Phormium beside mine - it's a small area too. Little ferns are useful too. image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Its just visible to passers by, there is a 6 foot fence all the way round my garden but the kids are little rips round here and wil just over if they think there is fish in. It will just be to attract beneficial insects, frogs, hedgehogs etc for the veg near by, so I dont have to use pesticides on the food.

Can anyone recommend a good oxygenator?

I was thinking of getting a solar water feature to just move the water round.

    What do you think?

You don't need to move the water round - a wildlife pond will balance itself with a few oxygenators. Elodea crispa is the most common one and readily available but there are others too. You won't need much for a small pond. If you want wildlife in it - make sure you have good access. A sloping edge will let creatures in and out safely, and birds and insects will be able to drink and bathe image

  • If I remember rightly our pond took a few days to clear after we introduced the water - there are plenty of good websites to read up on all the facts of making a new pond. The RHS little book Ponds & Water Features published by Dorling Kindersly is a useful one to buy.
