Its the middle of October and I've just taken about 20 softwood fuschia cuttings. They are in seed/cuttting compost and I used rooting gel. What do you think, will they or won't they?
plant in pot with good drainage, the most inportant thing is not to over water and be patient and not tempted to pull out the cutting to soon,it might look dead but wait a little and it will come to life and also not to hot enviroment.some people use plant hormone or as monty a vit c tablet but me I just stick a heel cutting into the pot.
I forgot about this thread.. Well I can update I have had great results, from the the bag method on the windowsill. The one's I left in rainwater rooted after a couple of weeks, they was potted on and are doing great.
Gardenia I'm not sure about this late in the year but hopefully Brumbull will come back. You might need some sort of heat in the soil. Are they inside or outside?
Brumbull that's a method I will try next year, What time of year do you do that?
The one on the left is from the rainwater jar (delta sarah). The midde one is MsB suggestion from with the bag on the window (alice hoffman) On the right is from the water jar but is missing it label, strange. So will have to wait for it to flower before I find out. The one with the most growth has to be the one that spent its early days with covered with a bag
I am going to try the water thing and have just done so. the four little plants will hopefully make new roots... Shall keep coming for more information for different things.
I think they are best put in water on the windowsill later in the year, try September. I usually do 200 or so, all take well but not in the hot weather.
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.
Thanks. As I have already started a few yesterday I shall obviously keep them but if they do not do I shall repeat the experience at the date you mention. Thanks for sharing.

Great to have found this. I have never had any luck with cuttings.
