Polytunnel advice

Hi I have bought a polytunnel off a neighbour at our allotment do just looking for advice on what to grow and when? I have the frame in place but not put the cover on as yet as weather been bad. When should I put it on? Any advice much appreciated and any websites or book that are good. We are in the south btw. Very excited to get growing in it! Thanks! image

    Agree with Tetley, as usual.

If you can leave your polythene spread out before you cover the tunnel, this will help soften it too.

tetley, try living here in North West Devon 10 miles from the Atlantic and 750 feet up.

Many wonderful plusses but never expect a still day.

Even worse here, another 210' above you, and on the edge of the moor. I've given up on poly tunels, plastic greenhouse and cold frames.

I did once buy one of those big  polytunels  with the green plastic over, we anchored it down, put guy ropes on all four corners, from the top, the wind just buckled the frame work.

Having another conservatory built now, that should house a few seed traysimage

  • Thanks for replies! We used to live in south Devon but went camping to north devon year before last...windy is not the word! Tent suffered a bit!!

So am I looking at Easter or later perhaps May?? And would you take the plastic off every winter? I think it is the proper stuff...green mesh with plastic coating? image

It doesn't sound like a polytunel, is it one of those you slot the rods together then place cover over and do the zips up.

A proper polytunel, you don't ever take the plastic off, if it is one of those, just erect it now, it won't make any difference. Be careful of the wind taking it or bending the frames.
