The frilly lettuce (Lollo Rossa) is slightly more slug proof Marc - especially the reds. We all love the red oak leaf one too -sorry Verd
I sow seed of those varieties in a long trough and let it all get to a reasonable size, then I use it as a cut and come again. It will take several cuts throughout the summer. I also sow some and leave them to grow into decent sized lettuces for cutting completely. As the ones in the trough grow a bit , I sow another lot. It suits us very well. Containers make it easier to keep the greedy destructive molluscs at bay
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Probably a good point verdun, I can down size my plan and use the last bit on the weed membrane
Then herbs or something elsewhere

Think I'll cut 2 long strips in membrane and plant some, prob germinate on trays 1st
I did look at red oak, not something I eat often to say what I like
Just hope slugs not invited to it and the strawberries. Have to plant some beer maybe
Hmm slugs is putting me off, not sure now
Don't want to risk inviting more to the strawberries
I find it easier in containers Marc. We get a lot of rain and therefore a lot of slugs here!
How about trying something else - like thyme - if you're keen to edge the bed?
