Lawn cutting

Is it too early to cut the lawn.  With the warm spell in December it grew quite a bit and I've seen my neighbour doing his.  Is it too early?

  • It doesn't matter about the date if the lawn needs cutting and the conditions are right.  Don't cut it if it's wet underfoot or if there's a frost forecast within the next few days.

Otherwise go ahead, but not too short, just take a little off to start with.

I think it will be , literally months before I can cut mine

    Devon.
  • Hi here in Derbyshire like everywhere its been so wet but my grass has grown

so much this year its ready for mowing now.

I have decided to wait for a couple of dry days then mow lightly with a Hover mower with the blade set high.Later on I will use my cylinder mower to get a

better cut,but not yet.so don't worry it should be ok to go ahead.
  • Hmmm - just looked at the Met Office website - here in Norfolk we're in for a few frosts over the next few nights.

Check for your area before mowing.  It's not a disaster if your grass gets frosted after cutting, but it will 'scorch' the cut ends and turn them brown so it won't look brilliant.

  • Thanks again.  Will check the weather

  • Id say a bit too early but when the time comes only cut 1/3 off the length of the grass. Slowly reduce the height of the grass over the weeks
