Growing garlic

My garlic is growing well but just read on the internet that Sulphate of Potash is good for them.If so firstly what does it do and how do you apply and when.The website said to put it on in February?. Any advice appreciated???

    You don't want to believe everything you read on the internet, Marrow.  Potash (i.e. potassium salts, such as potassium sulphate) helps flower and fruit formation and growth.  Since you don't want these with garlic I wouldn't have thought it was necessary.  Someone will tell you something different in a minute.

    When you do use potash (fruit bushes particularly appreciate it) it's better to apply it in a combined form so it doesn't all wash away the first time it rains.  Comfrey 'tea' is probably the best form, but wood ash is also useful.  Apply when the flowers first appear.

    Comfrey liquid is diluted and watered on; wood ash is just sprinkled on the soil - and then raked in or lightly covered with compost to stop it blowing away.
