Not a lot to add to the above, I tackled a very sad looking pot of mint last week, cutting back the roots and repotting some of the stems that were showing signs of life and now it's starting to romp away. Shame I can't grow the lovely spuds to go with it
Mint has got to be the easiest plant to take cuttings and pot on and have never had a problem with reproducing as many plants as needed from a bit of root in a pot.
Just pull it all out and be as selective as you need however once a root is planted and kept under a bit heat and water its take off time as it grows so quickly.
picture shows ten cuttings successfully taken from clump of root and a apple mint plant turned into six plants which will come really quickly
Mint is so easily reproduced you do not need to buy it just get a plant or two and cut often and when plant looks tired ditch it but keep a bit root and replant and hey presto more fresh mint
