A carex, looks a bit small for Carex pendula but might just be young

I agree about its weed status as well. That's why you don't see it in GCs. It's a thug that seeds everywhere. I love it and grow it but if I had a normal garden I would leave it right out

  • Just a thought folks - do any of you grass experts know of a grass/carex with a similar habit which Mackers might grow in his new garden without running any of the risks that Carex pendula threatens?

Miscanthus Nepalensis might fit the bill. Mackers, if you're anywhere near N. Devon, I've got lots in my polytunnel. I could let you have one.

  • Wow thanks for all the responses, the thugish description explains why it originally appeared from nowhere in a pot of another plant, I really liked the shape & colour but I think I'll heed the warnings and go for an alternative grass without the seed issue!

hosta, thanks for the offer but I'm in Kent!
