Garden centre

Lou12Lou12 Posts: 1,149

I have some early birthday money and I am off to the garden centre. I have no definite plan other than "Buy all the plants".

I have to be sensible though as the funds are not finite so I am thinking a really nice clematis for sun that hopefully won't be as pathetic as the clematis I planted in half shade before the tree was chopped down and a large pack of tall summer flowering bulbs for a sunny (well as sunny as you get in the UK) bed.

Recommendations for a really long flowering clematis would be great, clay soil, full sun, north facing.

I'm looking for something that flowers pretty much non stop from early to late summer - if there is such a thing!

If not, could plant two together, one early flowering one late!

  • Also look at the alpina type clematis - they flower early and then give a second flush later on and many of them are happy in shady spots image

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

Hi all, thanks for the advice, I have been and I got another hellebore rosy red colour as I love them so much.

Another winter jasmine as they look so wonderful in winter.

A euonymous Maricke which is really pretty, clematis montana Broughton - yes I know it wasn't what I asked for but the montanas you just have to admire their announcing of spring in such spectacular fashion and I can get some later flowering ones another time.

I definitely said to myself DEFINITELY  no more roses so I came away with climbing rose Bridge of Sighs with a spectacular scent and the most fabulous peach flowers.

That's all well and good but now I have to plant them all image

Which garden centre did you visit Lou? If you join the Hort society you get a 10% discount card for Paradise Park which they give you back as vouchers at the till. I've just been today and bought 5 little starter plants at £1 each but free with my vouchers. image

I may even have seen you there Daryl, I was at Paradise Park. I'll remember that next time I go I'm planning on joining image

It's blowing a gale out there, freezing and the ground is horrendous as the fence guy churned it all up but I have lots of compost and M-fungi so it should be ok.
