Do you mean  Opuntia, the prickly pear cactus?

If it's indoors it might well start to grow now - but this year, who knows?!image

btw, if it is prickly pear....

Think you'd need a cacti specialist to answer that Ryan. There's over  80 different types from all over the temperate to tropical regions of the world. But plenty of warmth suggests you should enjoy it as it is obviously doing.

  • Was it Ryan's Opuntia that gave rise to Hosta singing the whole of Bare Necessities on here not long ago?

    I think I missed that... Hosta...?image

  • The problem is that new pads look very similar to flower buds, so it could be either.

However, it should not be doing anything at this time of year because Opuntias and most other cacti need to be bone dry in Autumn and Winter. This will cause it to be dormant, then it will (hopefully) flower in late spring/summer.

  • It may have something to do with the light it's receiving however I do water it occasionally but only when I think the soils really dry, so who knows guess I better wait and see.. I'm just glad it's growing image
