once you've turned it over, sprinkle some " suet treats" and the blackbirds will do the rest for you.

Put the slug pellets out on Valentine's day, that way you get all the new little slugs early and it's such a lovely way to spend Valentine's dayimage.

Nematodes do work very well as long as the soil is at a certain warm temperature, if you have a huge garden it works out very expensive though, so a few strategically placed pellets, covered, will work out cheaper.

    Good idea Hostafan1!

Based in Sussex, I garden to encourage as many birds to my garden as possible.
  • Nematode treatment is worth every penny! The nematodes return to the soil when the slugs die and wait for another slug to come along. They don't affect other wildlife or anything creature that eats slugs; some gardeners report that snail numbers may drop too.

OTHER PEST EASY FIX - if you have water butts and are plagued with mozzies then half a cup of vegetable oil floats in the butt all season, even after fresh rainfall, so the larvae suffocate. Old pair of tights stretched over the inlet pipe stops debris getting in to stop stinky decay which feeds larvae and charcoal tied into a stocking will keep water cleaner too.
