Veronicastrums.....who's growing them

VerdunVerdun Posts: 23,348

I'm growing veronicastrums this year.  Lovely mid height spikes of subtle blues, whites and pinks.  Nice "exclamation marks" in the borders.

Anyone growing these perennials?   What varieties and opinions of them?

    Hi Verdun

I have grown a lilac form for a few years. I love its height and that it doesnt need staking. It is a magnet for bees and the skeletal remains of the flowers look good into the winter. Generally a lovely plant

I've got a lilac one as well Verdun. It's good this year but doesn't increase much. Been here for years and only four stems. Apart from the last 2 years I think it's a bit dry for it

I've got blue, pink and white ones - all called something spires (obviously  the plant namers with imagination had all gone home early that day) .  The bees loves them and they flower for ages at the front of my borders.  Had the blue ones for 3 years, and they are forming bigger clumps.  The others are new this year.  Would get you some pictures daisy but its dark !  Maybe tomorrow ....

  • Would I have beought these from Wilkos as dried up root balls under the name 'veronica'? If so I have them too and they are growing but have not flowered yet!

We have a pink one which has produced fasciated flowers every year since we got it. Makes them into a very substantial blossom.

Well in that case I have misled you - mine are veronicas (the poor cousinsimage).  However, having gone to the effort of taking photos, I am going to post them anyway.

They may not be classy, but I rather like them ..... and so do the beesimage
