Greenhouses!

Hi all image

I am moving into a new property soon and want to invest in a greenhouse, approx 6x4ft. Upon first investigation (Googling image) there seems to be a lot of UK based wholesalers where you can order from.

Does anyone have any advice or recommendations when looking for reputable and affordable greenhouses?

Many thanks in advance, Scott!

    Joseph, 6x4 is pretty small.

If , and it's a big if, your budget and plot allow, I'd go for something bigger.

    You'll fill a 6x4 in no time.

In the words of Alan Titchmarsh, " Two things in the garden which can never be too big: your greenhouse, and your compost bins"

  • Believe me I would LOVE a bigger greenhouse image. It will be mostly for seedlings and cuttings as well as keeping certain plants safe over the winter (like the olive tree me and my wife brought from the Eden project several years ago).

But it's generally a compact garden so i'll be building raised beds for when the greenhouse over flows!

Watch for temperature swings in a small greenhouse. They can heat up very quickly in sunny weather.

You'll get used to it, it's all part of the fun of gardening.

Be careful when buying on e-bay. Read all the details they put up. One company states, right at the end, that if faulty any returns must be sent back not to the supplier in GB, but back to China!!!!!!!!!

  • Sorry was referring to secondhand. Can get a 6x8 greenhouse for around ??20! If you are prepared to take it apart and clean it.
  • Thanks for the tip. It's definitely worth a look. I wouldn't mind a little project of trying to reassemble a second hand one either!

What are your preferences between glass or poly carbonate panels?

  • Is it OK to buy a second hand one . when taking apart would any seals be needed to be replaçed

  • Well I brought a wooden one which cost me around ??500 after restore, transport etc was solid build cedar about 12x8 would have cost about ??10k new
