I have successfully grown first earlies in big black pots in past years. Buying big pots is pricey, so I use old cut flower tubs from Morrisons - I paid 99p for a dozen a few years ago. Found them beside the flower display - ask if they have any. Just drill drainage holes in the base, plant a couple of chitted seed spuds in each, with some compost (home made stuff works well and is free!). Keep topping up with more compost as others above have said. I think it is best to use seed potatoes as these should be certified virus/disease free. Good luck!
Ordered potatoe seed (TPS) while on holiday hurghada (egypt) haven't gone into this part of growing potatoes before (soon be time to pack my bags for home) has anyone got any tips as I said before never to old to learn
Thanks Steve 309 I think with due respect you missed my thread Potato seed (TPS) is the true seed of the potato tuber you planted: some named potatos produce flowers which produce a seed pod similar to a tomato (very poisoning) and it's by using a flower from another named potato to obtain a new potato ; Just type in potato seed (TPS) and go on from there Since I've been away nearly 8 weeks I've got potato's growing in greenhouse for Easter on the 19th of December 15 I harvested new potatoes from tomato planter grow bags very prolific enough for 9 people for Christmas lunch have photo for proof but don't know how to send it (didn't have any myself was in Spain visiting family ) but was told were very nice

Well worth growing earlies at home as the flavour is so much better than the shop bought ones.
Maybe some earlies also
