Can anyone please identify these?

Hello,

I recently moved into a new house and im currently trying to identify two different flowers. Im not even sure if they are weeds. Im hoping someone can help.

The first picture is the plant with white buds at the top and star shaped leaves:

The second plant has not flowered yet but seems to have good ground cover:

 Many thanks for your help.

I agree with you Gardengirl. These are both good plants to have though I do find my Japanese anemones a little invasive, worth a bit of trouble though.

Thank you both for your replies at least now I know they aren't weeds.
