Staking Acanthus

sandyvsandyv Posts: 116

We have masses of giant acanthus in the garden we moved to last summer,  some are more than 6 feet tall. I want to get stakes in place before they start growing again, but can't figure out what is best to use, most supports simply won't be strong enough.

Do they need staking? Mine stand up by themselves.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
  • I don't stake acanthus either.  Normally their stems are plenty strong enough to support themselves unless in a windy position

Mine don't fall over till the seed heads form, these are very heavy and sometimes the stem breaks with a spectacular crackimage
