Grass problem

Hi I have moved into a new build and this is the first winter for my grass. With all the rain it seams to have killed my grass in some patches as it was water logged. Can anyone advise me what I can do to it and also the best for spring with fertiliser and grass seed. Thanks

I am far from a lawn expert but I suspect that since your home is a new build the issue may lie in what is underneath the surface.  I don't have any personal experience but have read that builders often skim over poor compacted earth and rubble with a few inches of top soil and then seed it.  As for treatment hopefully someone will have comprehensive advice for you.

My own lawn is often waterlogged (low water table) when conditions are wet like they have been this winter.  My lawn always recovers on it's own volition without any interference from me.  Stepping stones laid in the lawn help manouvering through the garden when it is particularly bad.

Being a new build I'd go with Angie on this one. You need to see what's under the bare patches before doing anything. It's easy enough, just scrape away or use a spade to lift the topsoil. You'll be looking for soil discolouration or compacted soil. It could be one of a few things but building waste may well play a part. If you find soil discolouration, them remove as much as you can and replace with fresh soil, then and only then can you resow.
