Potatoes..best ones for storage

    SW France. We had frosts in October then wet and mild, then recent frosts. It is often colder here than in England in winter. If you click on my name you will find my profile.

    Nanny Beach I clicked on you and found you live near Eastbourne. OH's daughter lives there and we have had the flat above hers as a 2nd home for a few years, but we are moving to a cottage in Norfolk in Feb., keeping the French house which is partly owned by my children.

  • Only maincrop spuds will store.

    To my knowledge no one variety has a longer storage life than another........the storage life is much more likely to be decided by the storage conditions.

    Re varieties that keep, I grew Valour for a few years and they kept right through till the earlies were ready without many sprouting too badly!

    Good croppers and large tubers as well!

    Only problem they were a terrible taste and watery to boot!

    Keeping them really cool appears to be the way to make them keep longer!

    Newboy there was a council supported seed and potato day in totterdown a couple of weeks ago image 

    there is a seed swap on 5th March 12-5 at Feed bristol over Stapleton. There *may* be people with spuds thereimage

    My great great grandfather was Mayor of Norwich. I never wanted to go to France in the first place (1985) went for 1st OH.(who died)

    I still have sufficient Marfona and PFA to last until the first earlies are harvested. Marfona are a second early.
  • hi fruitcake  I will have plenty  for sets this year with what I have over give rest away  as I only grow 3 crops of them from first sets I was hoping to go right through with onions but that heavy hailstones we had bruised lots of them I must have lost 200 I have 100 ish left  out of 600 planted  ..hope to plant my raised bed this week   michael
