Help with preparing soil

I just bought some bone meal in the pound shop, trying to cut down on expense of farm manure at garden centre.......can I dig this in to soil before plant in veg ?

    It all depends on what your planting but you can't do without manure or compost altogether.I always use my old compost to improve the soil and I have a compost binimage
