Is this chick weed?

image

hi, can anyone identify this- it's popping up all over my garden. I think it's chick weed but not sure? It easily pulls up and it's just got a thin white stem to it.

Are there any with true leaves yet?

It might be chickweed but also resembles the one with blue flowers, bird's eye?

They look like any of hundreds of types of seedlings - as Nutcutlet has said there's no hope of an identification until they've grown a few more leaves.

  • I agree, could easily also be speedwell.  I'm 'blessed' with the ivy-leaved version which is at the same stage right now.

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
  • Thanks Nutcutlet, Dovefromabove and BobTheGardener for your views,  I will let it grow for a few weeks and let you know.????

  • Hi Hazel, yes I think you are right about the viola seeds, never had them before. Looks like I have some tedious weeding to get on with.

    Thanks for your reply.image

Hi Hazel, sorry for the very very late reply on the viola's but I must tell you I took some to a professional gardener and he said they are definately weeds and must be pulled out before they flower or else you will have millions and never get rid of them! ☹️
