Jingle bells has probably flowered early as you rightly guessed. The wisley will slow down with the cooler weather. I'd leave it alone for now as there are indications of a return to the cold and frosty weather we have seen recently. I'd take another look at the wisley when spring arrives.

  • Wisley is a Late Large Flowered Group 3 and should be butchered to the floor on 14th February with all the other Group 3's.

Cripes, this sounds drastic, but I will do the bis on the clematis.

Wisley has masses of stunning, never ending beautiful blue/purple flowers all thro the summer and into early autumn.  Well worth growing I think.

I have Prince Charles and Julia Correvon planted last year, same Valentine's Day treatment for them

  • Yes, Prince Charles is Late Large Flowered Group and Madame Julia Correvon is Viticella Group, both Group 3 for pruning.

Being fairly new to growing clematis , I was advised to grow the Viticella varieties as they are the easiest to grow.

i have the Julie Correvon growing through a yellow leaved choisia, which brightens up a corner of the garden

  • Madame Julia Correvon flowers earlier than most other viticellas, starting in June here in Lancashire. Sometimes if pruned back a few feet after flowering it will put on another flush of flowers.
