Asparagus growing early

i planted asparagus last spring. I cut down and mulched in the autumn. It is now growing again in January. Is this because the weather is mild and I live in Cornwall.?The spears are spindly, should I cut them down or leave them. Will more arrive in April when I believe they should grow?

I'd leave them. You aren't meant to harvest them in the first year anyway. More will grow later. Leave them too.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

Yep I heard that you do not harvest any spears until the second year.. My friend grew some and she found the same thing...

  • Thank you I will do that
