How to deal with moss??

I have a problem with moss in my garden, but it isn't just in the lawn. It appears in pots, borders and even grows up trees and a railway sleeper 'wall' !! I know people say that this is to do with not enough light but I am hardly steeped in darkness! I don't understand it. image Please could you advise how I may remedy this.

Thankyou

I wouldn't worry about it meomye, when spring and summer comes it'll die off and then you can just dig it into borders or compost it.

  • If it is cool and damp,  then either moss or algae will grow on it. That is what real nature is like, not  those immaculate magazine photosimage In my garden anything that stands still for long enough gets covered in green slime. That is why I make sure to keep movingimage I have acid soil and there is a kind of yellowy-green creeping moss that covers all surfaces, even gravel, and climbs ino plants too. If it is becoming particularly unsightly  or risks smothering a small plant  then I pull out what I can, but I know it will grow back.  These things generally do no harm, they soften edges, make cheap plastic containers and concrete statues look like aged stone and give the garden the look of being well-established, not like a TV makeover. A pressure washer, or moss/algae remover if you are not organic, will keep paths safe, otherwise just take a magnifying glass and learn to enjoy their special kind of beautyimage
