Invasive Weed??

 Hello..

I have found this green matter growing all over the top/surface of all my tree seedlings and it has spread into the Garden.

Can anyone shed some light on what it is, How it developed and how I could get rid of it please?

Thank You in Advance

Brody.

Regular hoeing and improving drainage will get rid of it in the garden.  Move your tree seedlings into somewhere with better light and again, improving drainage should help there as well.   It's not deep rooted so you can scrape a lot away with your fingers which will help too.

I do have a sneaky liking for it tho' - it is a fascinating 'plant'.  image

@Dovefromabove    ... Jut thinking about it now - when I repotted the seedlings I did pack the soil down very tight because they were pretty small and I wanted them to be sturdy enough for the winter wind's & I have nothing else in the pots to encourage drainage so I know now what I did wrong... You're  right tho, although I was panicking about it,  there is a strange fascination to them - those little holes that burst through them and (I dunno if it's the same plant but iI have tiny little mushroom like things growing up through them - kyna like the ribs of an Umbrella and without the covering.. hope that make sense?)

@ Tetley   .... Thats were I happen to have the seedings. there in a more shaded part of the garden - lolz @ tarting them up...#

I agree with you too Philippa - if I could just get it to grow around the edges of the pot and maybe grow down the sides of it, I think that would make an Interesting look on the pot .

You're very welcome - non-gardening inconsequential friendly chat can be found on Hello Forkers thread image

(and liberally scattered elsewhere of course) image

The 'umbrella ribs' are the female fruiting bodies of the liverwort.

Quite harmless, and maybe protective in hard times.  Scrapes off easily enough if you want to - far worse things out there that liverwort.
