Don't think it's going to recover.... I sent the broken off stem to RHS to analyse and they found Phytophthora - then said it could be Phytophthora Ramorum and have referred to the Animal and Plant Health Agency and that they may be in contact if there's an 'outbreak'. Also that I should remove the plant, soil, roots and any fallen leaves... Also that it's almost certainly fatal...
Hope the replacement doesn't go down the same route!
