Bulbs for under the fir trees

in Talkback
I have planted a row of firs at the bottom of the garden in a completely shaded area. I want to put some colourful bulbs under the firs to come up in the spring and summer. Can anybody recommend some and when to plant them please?

bright colours and shade don't go together well either in appearance or in plant survival

Not spring or summer, but autumn - you may get away with colchicums - also called naked ladies. They don't mind dry soil, but you would have to check on shade.
Thanks both. Appreciate you taking the time to advise.
could try some cyclmen as well, usually seen in deciduous shade but worth a try
