This crazy climate

Watching the bird-feeder today and lots more birds are suddenly appearing, including a cute little blackcap ousting a bully-boy sparrow from the perch.  Then, our eyes nearly popped out of our head; our first long-tail tit of the season - and he had a couple of feathers in his beak!  Isn't this a tad early to be nesting....

A lot of wildlife has been as confused as we are over the weather this year. It's going to get colder next week so it should put them off getting those spring feelings poor things. I wish I could feed birds, we have too many cats around here for it to be safe for them.

I wouldn't nest yet if I were a bird. But I've heard woodpeckers drumming and as for the pigeons...........image

Other countries have a climate the UK just has weather. I can't remember who I'm quoting there but I think it's true.

We heard woodpeckers drumming on Christmas Day Nut ... and birds are certainly pairing up.  I hope we get some chilly weather soon or things will certainly be getting too far ahead to turn back image

I saw five robins in the jasmine by the feeders yesterday. Usually they only come near each other when pairing off. A flock of robins???'

Also, tonight by the motorway island, the verge is full of dandelions just showing yellow flowers. Another week, and it will be a mass of yellow.

This 'pair' of blackbirds have been demonstrating courtship behaviour around my garden since mid-December. No sign of nesting as yet, but it's probably only a matter of time...? [The heavy rainfall & gales do not appear to have deterred them!].

I have a definite 'pair' of blackies too David. I'm thrilled they're in the garden at all - it's taken a while to get them visiting regularly. I think there's another pair as well - I often see two males and two females at the same time in different parts of the garden.

I went out at lunchtime to put a little bit more out for them and saw a little goldcrest in at the feeder in the conifer. image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

Hello , filled up bird feeders today , lots birds about in the Garden & Allottment image

  • Walking down our lane you would think that it was spring for all the lovely happy sounding birdsong drifting through the airimageimage

  • Long tailed tits are renowned early breeders, but even so I wouldn't expect to see them building until late Feb.
