Sow indoors IN HEAT ?
I use The Real Seed Catalogue and they are a seed producer and do not have a manned phone for advice.............no problem as they concentrate on growing
? On their onion seed packet it says you can sow indoors IN HEAT early Jan / Feb
? What do they mean by IN HEAT
I can leave the seed tray in the front room over January and February until they have sprouted
? Any thoughts friends please

I sow onion seed in a greenhouse at this time every year. It is only kept frost free. Inside the house is probably too hot.
Same here - frost free is good enough for onions. The heating of the seed tray compost by the sun during the day is enough for germination.
What is this strange 'sun' of which you speak?

I have two main hobbies - gardening and astronomy so am completely frustrated at the moment! Having said that, I have a pile of shiny new 2016 seed and plant catalogues to keep me busy.
