  • Hi neighbour image  Why not have a listen to Bob Flowerdew on iPlayer or whatever it's called and see what you think from what he said.  It's a bit of swings and roundabouts - I think that if you left them on and escaped the frost then you could get a crop from them, but unless we had an amazing summer you might not get a second crop so what are you gaining?

I'm glad I picked mine off (although it was very tempting - they just needed another fortnight or so of summer - but we didn't get it).

Now thats a gret prog i havnt heard it before,im onto in the future and interesting views on the figs, i just might try both ways as iv got a good selection of figs coming along for the future,iv found direct planting for the cuttings is better than in jars, they seem to settle very easily and quickly, and there seems to be somthing rather special in growing fig tree cuttings i get quite a buz, i cant put my finger on it, maybe beaucaus they look such a nice tree, why aint my spell check workin nar  cheers Dove miduckimageimage

  • Gardeners Question Time has been a fixture in my life ever since I was a child - I went to a recording at Debenham WI with my mother in the 60s.  My gardening heroes have all been regular panellists on there http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gardeners'_Question_Time .

Every few weeks they have an edition of questions that have been sent in so, if we can't come up with the answer you can write or email GQT and see what they have to say image

Can fig trees in pots bare fruit in the UK?

Mine does image  It's in a very large terracotta pot in a sheltered corner of a sunny terrace.  You need to get a suitable variety - Brown Turkey is the most usual one grown outside in the UK.

Lots of information here http://www.readsnursery.co.uk/fig-trees-for-gardens-and-greenhouses/ image
