What is the gardening equivalent of finding the last After Eight hidden in the corner of the box?

  • Seeing new shoots appear from the ground where you thought a clematis had died over a year ago! image

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

Yes. That happened to me after I had a new fence put up. I was sure I'd lost it!

Must be a Clematis thing.... mine was disapperared for nearly three years.image

Whilst checking the water levels behind the hugely overgrown dogwoods I found some 7ft tall turks cap lillies that were hidden in the overgrowth, WooHoo!

    That's overgrown!

  • Mine was finding some self sown seedlings from a fern a few weeks ago when I was just thinking about the fact I "needed" more fern plants.

Thinking a cutting hasn't taken only to look under the pot and see lovely little white roots popping through - yippeee!

  • I was going to say the same thing Tootles!

I pinched a cutting from a friends Christmas  Cactus about 3months ago and since then nothing has happened, but yesterday during my weekly houseplant check l spotted a brand new leaf......yay!

Oh B3 you have no idea. I found a tree down as well! I don't go to that corner much image I'm working my way out from the house through a huge neglected garden but the man who lived here before me was a keen gardener so little treasures pop up now and again. (or big ones!)

Definitely when the very expensive plant which died upon planting, suddenly throws up new shoots from the roots which were not dug out.

Pp was it growing out of the well or had someone dumped it?

My dad knew a man who was too mean to pay for his 3 piece suite to be taken to the dump so he buried it in his front garden. I hope the house wasn't bought by gardeners!
